Steve's concentration is in long-term care with extensive industry involvement both as a professional and as a member of industry policy committees.

Steve Jones, a senior executive with MSL, has over 35 years of experience in public accounting, primarily serving clients in the long-term care industry. His areas of concentration are skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, and hospice organizations. Additionally, he provides reimbursement consulting services and serves as an advocate for his clients to various healthcare regulators and third-party payors.

Steve has had extensive experience in the long-term care industry, both as a professional and as a member of industry policy committees. His experience includes financial feasibility forecasts and projections, licensure applications, prepurchase due diligence, Certificate of Need applications, and expert testimony at administrative hearings. Additional services he provides for healthcare clients include operation reviews, cost reporting, reimbursement consulting and modeling, client representation in third-party payment audits, and traditional financial audits, reviews, and compilations. Steve developed our original Florida benchmarking data for skilled nursing facilities. He has served as the Firm’s primary representative to the Florida Health Care Association from 1986 to 2015. Steve has reviewed contracts with managed care organizations, suggested changes for client negotiations, and served as accounting liaison to a receiver of a long-term care campus.  

What unique value do you bring to your clients?  I’ve been in long-term care consulting almost full-time for the last 35 years; if I haven’t done everything, I’ve probably seen it and know ways to deal with it.  And if I haven’t, that’s even better!

What attracted you to consulting and accounting as a career?  Consulting is mostly problem-solving, and presents more diverse challenges than delivering standard accounting work. Clients are more interested in this type of help, and even though it may add the stress of venturing outside your comfort zone, the results are always more than worth it.
